How to moving the taskbar

If you want to move your taskbar. Mostly I leave mine at the bottom, like the rest of the population, but occasionally I feel like going wild and have the taskbar at the top of my computer. The Taskbar is that thin bar at the bottom where you can see all your open programs, the start menu, the clock, etc. Now, in WinXP they made it very nice to move it. This is how:
Right Click on the Taskbar
Click, Lock the Taskbar, until there is no check there
Left Click on the task bar and move it to where you want it...it will always rest up against an edge, so top, left or right.
Then click, Lock the Taskbar, again and it won't move from that spot.

These are the same instructions for Windows 98, ME, 2k, only you don't have to unlock the taskbar, you just left click on it and move...this was easier, but also you sometimes accidentally moved the task bar when you didn't want it to move, ugh. Well, there you have it, now put your taskbar to the top and see if you li

Solar Street Lights Are Coming

Solar street lights are not new products. Usually, the system contains street lamps, solar panel, solar controller, batteries, arm, pole, wires and so on.

You may find some projects in your city. They can save all electricity cost and resources. It looks like great. You may think we should use solar street lamps everywhere. However, why are they not so popular?

1. Why not so popular now

The main reason is cost. When the power consumption of street lamps is 60 Watt, it needs 150 - 170 Watt solar panel and 2 units 80 Ah batteries. The cost is near USD 1, 000. If the power consumption is higher, such as 150 Watt, the cost will be a little amazing. Many countries can not accept the price.
However, as traditional HPS street lights, the power consumption is usually 60W, 80W, 150W, 250W or 400W. So, the cost is high in most of cases. Many countries can not accept the cost.

2. LED technology

In the past two years, LED street lights become more and more popular. They use LED (Light Emitting Diode) as light sources. Comparing with traditional HPS lamps, LED lamps can save 50%-70% energy. For example, 30W, 60W, 110W and 160W LED lamps can replace 80W, 150W, 250W and 400W HPS lamps.

3. Advantages of LED Street Lights

Main advantages are as follow

1). Lower power consumption

2). Higher power efficacy - LED street lights exceed mercury vapor's 31 lm/W. You can find higher efficacy measurement from for high pressure sodium lamps. It is just misleading because It includes wasted light that in turn wastes energy. In the market, many power efficacy of LED street lights can reach up to 80lm/w.

3). More Lux Per Watt - more than double that of a mercury vapor street light. The equivalent measurement for high pressure sodium lamps is skewed by hot spots that bump up the lux rating but cause undesirable visibility, safety and glare problems.

4) Longer lifetime (50,000 hours)

4. Why solar LED street lights will be very popular

Because LED lamps are energy saving, it can reduce cost of solar kits. When the cost is low, many countries can accept them.

For example, 60W solar LED street lamps can replace traditional 150W HPS street lamps. It will save all electricity. If you calculate ROI, you will find it's over 30% in two years. Why not accept?

Besides, LED is in semiconductor industry. The efficiency increases quickly. The cost of solar panel will be lower in the future.

So, LED lamps with solar kits are perfect combination. They will be very popular in the future 3 years.

How to Make Home made Solar Cells

Solar energy has been the wave of
the future for some time.

People have been talking about how effective it can be in replacing natural resources and how clean it is for decades, but the fact is that it takes time, money, and space to make your own homemade solar panels . The high efficiency solar cells you can buy from your local electronics store need silicon, high temperatures, vacuum sealing and a hefty chunk of cash from your wallet.

On the other hand, homemade solar cells don't take much time, can be slapped together in your kitchen, and are a fun project to learn how solar energy works.

What You'll Need

Here is a list of the materials you'll need before you can start making your own homemade solar cells:
Copper Flashing - half a square foot
2 Alligator Clip Leads
Sheet Metal Shears
Tap Water and Table Salt
Micro-ammeter - needs to be able to read currents between 10 and 50 microamps.
Electric Stove - either your kitchen stove or if it is gas, a small burner that you can pick up for $20.
Clear plastic bottle you can cut the top off of.
Sand Paper or Wire Brush

Building Your Homemade Solar Cells

To start putting your homemade solar cells together, you need to get your burner out and ready to use. Cut a piece of your copper sheeting out the size of the stove's burner. Make sure your hands are completely clean before starting and then wash the copper sheet with soap to get any grease or oil off of it (no fires). Clean the copper sheet with the sandpaper or wire brush to get any residues off as well.

Now, place the copper sheeting on the burner and turn the burner up to high. The copper will start to oxidize and change color. It will star to create a black layer of oxide, but this isn't what you want yet, so let it keep going until a thick layer of black forms - probably a good 30 minutes will be good until the coating can flake off completely.

When the 30 minutes is up, turn off your burner, let the copper cool on the burner so it doesn't cool too fast and then have the black layer flake off to reveal the cuprous oxide beneath - this will be a purple color. Make sure all the black stuff is gone and it's all purple now. Be careful though not to ruin anything or break the copper.

Now, cut another sheet of copper the same size as the first and bend them together so they will fit in the plastic bottle you have without touching. Have the red side of the copper sheet you cooked facing out from the bottle. Attach your alligator clips - one each to the two copper plates. The lead from the clean copper goes to the positive terminal and the one from the cooked copper goes to the negative terminal.

Mix two tablespoons of slat into some hot water and then stir until the salt dissolves. Pour your saltwater into the bottle and don't get the clips wet. Put enough water to not fully cover the plates, about an inch or so of space left.

By nature your cell is now a battery so it will always show about 5-6 microamps of current. In the sunlight though, it will jump to around 30-50 microamps because of the photoelectric effects of sunlight creating energy in the copper.

In the end, if you properly place all of your pieces, your homemade solar cells will produce enough electricity to operate a normal AA battery, solely by generating electricity from sunlight. Now, think of the same effect, only using silicon which is much more conductive and highly processed in those solar cells atop schools and nearby businesses. That is the energy of the sun at work.

How Would You Build A Homemade Wind Turbine

Right now, there are millions of people around the world turning more and more to renewable energy
sources that they can tap at home.

One extremely popular and not too hard way to way to do so is to create your own home made wind turbine. And while doing so might sound complex and expensive, home made wind power is cheaper than you think and the cost can be offset against your reduced energy bills, making it relatively advantageous for just about anyone.

There are many kits and guides available out there for putting a wind turbine together, please be aware that although some of these sources are real, many are scams and should be avoided... more on this later. To get you started here's a list of materials and what you really need to create your own Turbine.

Wind Power, Revised Edition: Renewable Energy for Home, Farm, and Business
Complete and detailed plans and instructions to build successful small wind turbines from scratch. Covers: making blades and generators, mechanical construction, towers & controls.

What You'll Need

The materials you'll need for your homemade wind turbine include the following:
12" Steel Disks
Template for Magnet Mounting
Grade n50 Magnets (10-15)
Base Form
Copper Wire - 14 Gauge enameled wire in 2 parallel strands is best
Pipes and Wheel Bearings for Bearing Assembly
Blades - These can be made from wood, metal, or a hybrid material of your choice.

The list above is general for a specific reason as homemade wind turbines are complex pieces of machinery that you should be sure you understand before undertaking. Things like magnets and electrical systems need to be carefully monitored or handled before putting them together.

You can acquire all of the parts listed above and plans required from Applied Magnets and they have a Price-Match GUARANTEE

Making Your Homemade Wind Turbine

If you realy don't want to use a kit, here are the steps you will need to create your own wind turbine.

Start out by creating your Magnet Disks. These should be created with the steel disks and at least 10 grade n50 magnets. Set the magnets on the disks and hold them there with a strong adhesive. They need to be firmly in place. These disks will be used for your coils later on.

Next, you will need to build your coil disk, which will include upwards of 10 individual coils soldered together and encased in resin. Upwards of 35 turns of wire will get the job done. The coil disk is the wire wrapped around the magnet disks. Wrap your wire directly around each of the 10 magnets until they are completely surrounded. Once they are surrounded (and carefully tied), encase them in the resin to be sure everything stays in position.

Your bearing assembly should be next. Use the wheel bearings in conjunction with your pipes to create the turning parts that will transmit the wind energy to the magnets and wires. Basically, fit the bearings to the ends of the pipes and connect the pipes together until you have two rotating pieces that will charge the magnets.

The least complex sounding process can be the hardest - that of constructing the blades. These should be cut at a 10 degree angle and be around 2-3" by 6-7". They need to be the right shape and mold to catch the wind and work in unison. One option is to order them separately, but this can make the project much more expensive if you are not careful.

Once you finish the different parts, you will bolt it together and get it running. Keep in mind that a homemade wind turbine will generally not replace your normal sources of energy - only support it. Also, if you are unsure or completely untrained with electrical work, you may want to hire or find an electrician to help out with the wiring part - just to be safe.

How to Create Your Own Homemade Biodiesel

There is nothing more satisfying than finding a way to cut out an expensive, seemingly unnecessary part of your budget. And nothing is more expensive or seemingly unnecessary than the cost of gas
right now.

So, there are many people who have started making home made biodiesel to take advantage of all that vegetable oil laying around, save some money, and not cause so much destruction to the environment.

Why Homemade Biodiesel?
Biodiesel fuel is something else if you think about it. Biodegradable, non-toxic, and about the same as sugar or salt, biodiesel fuel breaks down four times faster than petroleum and it stores just as well if it is kept full, dark, and cool. It reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 100%, sulphur dioxide by 100%, soot by 50% and carbon monoxide by up to 50% with dozens more emissions cut back by 10-97%. Fossil Fuel releases three times as much CO2 as what is burned while biodiesel goes beyond that and only releases what was put into the creation of the plant matter being used. In short, biodiesel is a great solution for the environment.

What You'll Need to make your own biodiesel
There are a few other things you'll need to make your homemade biodiesel, including:
Petri Dish
Beakers - 20 ml, 1500 ml, 500 ml
Isopropyl Alcohol
Eye Dropper
Litmus Paper
Blender
Methanol
Your Used Cooking Oil
Sodium Hydroxide

Making Your Home Made Biodiesel
The first step in creating homemade biodiesel is to complete titration. Simply put, titration is the measurement of how much of the reagents in the fuel you'll need to create the necessary reactions when you craft your fuel.

Start by putting 1 gram of Sodium Hydroxide on a petri dish, 1 liter of water in your 1500 ml beaker and then mixing them together. Put 10 ml of isopropyl alcohol in the 20 ml beaker and add 1 ml of vegetable oil to the alcohol. Label all of the beakers as you fill them to ensure safety.

Use your eyedropper to add 1 milliliter of Sodium Hydroxide and water to the oil and alcohol. Check the pH next. You will need to continue adding bits of the oil/alcohol mixture until the pH get to between 8 and 9. The final equation you need is (x+3.5)=N.
X=milliliters of sodium hydroxide/water added into the oil/alcohol
N=Number of grams of Sodium Hydroxide needed to neutralize 1 liter of vegetable oil - usually between 4.5 and 6.5.

Next, measure out 12 liters of used oil and 200 ml of methanol. Have N grams of Sodium Hydroxide set aside as well. Dissolve the sodium hydroxide into the methanol carefully (clean spills immediately) and then add it to the vegetable oil. While doing this, ensure you don't put your face or skin anywhere near the mixture. Use your blender of processor to mix everything together and then carefully add the vegetable oil. Blend them together for 15 minutes on high

It takes about 8 hours for the glycerin to settle, so wait it out. The methyl esters that form on top are the biodiesel. Move the materials to a beaker and cork it, then clean everything up.

In the end, the process of making homemade biodiesel can be complex and at times unsafe, so be very careful, research what you need to remain safe including goggles, gloves and a jacket, and always exert special caution. If so, start enjoying the fruits of your labor and the cheaper, safer fuel you just made.

can we really produce homemade energy?

Home made energy is fast becoming the buzz word in eco circles. Consumers are becoming fed up with the problems associated with using conventional energy resources.

The term "alternative energy" or "renewable energy" means any thing other than deriving energy via Fossil Fuel Combustion. Generally, it refers to electrical power derived from resources such as solar or wind energy, as opposed to "single-use" resources such as coal or uranium.

Basicly the concept of alternative energy sources relates to issues of sustainability, renewability and pollution reduction. 90% of our current energy usage is derived from fossil fuels and since there is only 50--70 years of production left in that resource then there is a clear need to invest in alternative energy sources NOW not later.

So it's clear that home made energy sources like wind, solar and biomass will be playing an important role in our future. From an Eco point of view, the benefit of using a renewable energy source is huge. Solar, wind and water power are all nonemission power sources. This means that no harmful exhaust is produced when using these alternative energy generators. Another huge plus is that no valuable resources are "used up" with renewable energy resources. There is no shortage of wind, water or sun, so every home on the planet could be powered with one of these alternative energy sources.

The main barrier to all of these forms of alternative energy is the initial high costs involved at the point of installation. The good news is that the cost of alternative energy is coming down year by year.
