Home Energy Saving Tips

Here are some tips to help you save energy, save money and do your part for the environment.

Try these easy, low-cost or no-cost energy saving tips.

Furnace
Keep your furnace clean, lubricated and properly adjusted with annual maintenance. If your furnace is working at peak efficiency it will use less energy and cost less to operate.
Clean or replace the filter every 1-2 months - a dirty filter reduces the airflow and forces the furnace to run longer to heat your home.

Consider purchasing a new ENERGY STAR® qualified furnace with a variable speed motor. An average home can save up to $571 in natural gas and electrical costs annually when upgrading from a standard 60% efficiency natural gas furnace to a 95% efficiency furnace with a high efficiency variable speed motor.

Thermostat
Lower your thermostat by 4 - 5 degrees Celsius (7 - 9 degrees Fahrenheit) while you're sleeping at night and when no one is at home.
Install a programmable thermostat. You can save 2% on your heating bill for every 1 degree C you turn down your thermostat. With a programmable thermostat to consistently lower your heat when you don’t need it, you could save up to $71 a year!
Laundry
Switch to cold when doing your laundry. 85 – 90% of the energy used to wash your clothes is used to heat the water. By turning the dial to cold on your washing machine, you help the environment, save energy, and save money.
Wash full loads.
Choose a front loading washing machine. Not only does a front loading washing machine save water, it saves energy as well. It uses about 40% less water and about 50% less energy.
Weather-stripping
Weather-stripping provides a barrier between the fixed and movable sections of doors and windows. Apply weather-stripping to operable windows, exterior doors, garage doors, and doors that lead to the attic.

Windows, doorframes, sills and joints
Apply a sealant or caulk around windows, doorframes, sills and joints. On a windy day feel for leaks or use a couple of incense sticks to help identify leaks around windows, electrical outlets, vents and exterior doors. As well look for spider webs - if there is a web there is a draft.
Use plastic window covers to help prevent heat loss.
Keep return air grills and heating vents clear of furniture, rugs and drapes, so there is no interference with the flow of heat through your home.

Basement
If you have an unfinished basement or crawlspace, check for leaks by looking for spider webs. If there is a web, there is a draft. A large amount of heat is also lost from an un-insulated basement.
Add insulation to basement walls.
Drapes & Blinds
On sunny days, open south facing drapes and let the sun in, a natural source of heat. If you have large windows that don't receive direct sun, keep the drapes closed.
Close your drapes and blinds during the night.
Pipes, ducts, fans and vents
Plug gaps around pipes, ducts, fans and vents that go through walls, ceilings and floors from heated to unheated spaces.
Showerheads and faucets
Install low-flow showerheads and faucets.
Click here to see a video on how to install a low-flow showerhead
Click here to see a video on how to install a Water Wizard ™
Dishwasher
Always wash a full load in your dishwasher and air-dry your dishes on the “energy saver” setting.
Garage
Turn on the heat just prior to use, save by not heating it continuously.
Wood Fireplace
Close the damper to prevent warm air from escaping through the chimney, and ensure the damper fits properly.
Other
Use the Equalized Payment Plan so you can average your bills and avoid peak winter bills.

Tips on Saving Money

Going hand and hand with an effective household budget is saving money on those things that you truly need. To start saving, take an inventory of your needs to see where you can shave the dollars. Begin with the biggest items first, where the most potential for savings is, and move down the scale to the less expensive items. A moderate savings on one of the big items(houses and cars) combined with savings on the smaller items (food, clothes, etc.) can reap a large reward in your total budget. The following are some thought starters:

General Tips

Distinguish between Wants and Needs: You will save a ton of money if you don't mistake wants for needs. Needs are pretty simple to identify--those items that are necessary to sustain: Shelter, food, clothing, transportation. Wants are those things that enhance or possibly improve our family life. A car is a need. Unless necessary for your business, a $40,000 Sport Utility Vehicle is a want, even if a lot of people don't see it that way. Have you ever heard (or said) "I absolutely need...?" when the actual meaning was "I really want?" This is not to suggest that you shouldn't be able to have the things you want--only that to delude yourself into believing that a want is a need--and busting your budget in the process--is a recipe for financial disaster.

Is less better? Perhaps it was due to the booming economy, perhaps "keeping up with the Joneses", maybe its ego, but for many of us, we often seem to insist on the biggest and the best, no matter what the cost. When a $15,000 new car may be more than acceptable, we stretch the seams of our budget to afford a $25,000 vehicle. We buy $25 shirts with $35 designer labels attached. We opt for the $100 dinner at the trendy restaurant when a $20 meal would have been just as delicious. Think about where you are spending the family money--and how--to see if there couldn't be savings found with minor changes in habits.

Try before you Buy: This goes a long way in helping to avoid the silly purchases of things you rarely or never use. Before you buy something, especially items with big price tags, borrow one, rent one or try one out before you plunk down the cash. If you are bored with it, or determine that it truly is not something you need before you buy it (and you will be on a certain percentage of items) you will definitely be bored with it, or find it not that necessary, after! Example: You feel that you absolutely must have a new Jet-Ski, at a cost of $4500 (and that is before financing and taxes). You go to the lake, rent one, and 45 minutes into a one hour rental you are saying, "geez, this is a long hour." Saved: More than $4500 (perhaps a year of college fees for the kid!)

Then when the whole digestive system is resting, the oiled orange juice will pass into the bloodstream and is readily absorbed by the bone structure which comprise the malady. Many folks have tried this and have had no occurrence of arthritis since the after years of being partially crippled.
  46. Influenza! Yarrow herb known as milfoil has been used with good results to stop hemorrhaging of the lungs. For a bad cold, take a teaspoonful of Arm & Hammer soda in a glass of cold water. If taken 15 minutes or so before a meal for 5 meals, it will banish a cold. If the stomach is empty, the soda passes on through it into the intestines and kills the acid forming there. The soda stops acid formation, which during a cold forms in the intestines, is absorbed into the blood and filters out through the membranes of the nose, throat, eyes and lungs. Cayenne and eyeb teas will dry up a cold quickly. Cream of tartar in a glass of water, one teaspoonful, will quickly banish fevers.

Now place in a quart jar and shake. Drink at once after mixing as the vitamins will escape within a few minutes after being mixed. Drink four times a day. This is equal to a full meal but one will gain or lose weight. Do not add sweetening of any kind.
  50. Doubled Crops! To double your crops, lervuilinic acid dusted on or soaking seeds with acid increases the yield of oats, corn, beets, soybeans and cotton as much as 100%. Costs only $3.00 per acre.

Spread another layer of magnesia to dissolve the first layer, remove with a damp towel. Now heat some olive oil and apply; let this remain for five minutes; use ice cold witch hazel, which removes the excess oil, leaving skin fresh. This magically erases frown lines, re-awakens and preserves face and neck indefinitely. Use twice a week; after a few treatments you will be amazed at the transformation.

What You Must Know About Rose Planting

Rose planting is a neat hobby to get into. It comes with both the actual fulfillment as well as the physical enjoyment. But mind you though, rose planting is not that easy of a task to get into. Most flower growers and professional gardener actually consider roses as one of the hardestplants to grow. Roses can be quite a challenge to keep looking beautiful and to grow into those colorful fully bloomed flowers from merely looking like rose buds. If you really wanted to get into the habit of rose planting, all it takes is for you to plan things carefully before you actually proceed on planting your roses.

rose

If you really wanted to pursue a garden project and fill it up with roses, the first thing you needed to keep in mind is to plan everything. Yes, this is the core of the entire rose planting endeavor. You need to plan all the details and to pick the type of roses which you will be using. If you are new to the whole gardening thing, it will be wise to consult a professional or even someone you personally know to help you out. To give you some useful ideas, you can also do some research on your own by looking things up at catalogs and browsing through gardening magazines. You can also visit any local garden or even parks to have an idea about certain landscapes and certain plants fit for home gardens if you plan to add in more than just roses.

As soon as you have accomplished making a solid plan for your garden, the next thing you have to do would be to select the types of plants for inclusion in the garden. The next important step after planning will have to be the preparation. In preparation, all the plans you have will begin to materialize in the form of raw materials. Make sure you include the roses you want and prepare the soil for your garden. You need to remember that garden soil does not actually occur within a snap. You do not have it overnight and you really needed to tend it before it does actually materialize. You need to make sure that you have also dug the holes where you will be placing your roses and make sure that they are separated with just the right space in between them.

Then of course after preparing your entire garden, you will now be ready to plant your roses. However, make sure that the holes you have prepared are about six inches deeper and larger as compared to the roses which you will be planting. As you begin to plant the roses, you need to carefully remove them from their wrappings to make sure they do not get damaged especially their roots. As soon as you have unwrapped the roses, the next thing you have to do will be to plant it already. Pack in the soil so that the roses will be held in place and make sure you also mix it in with water to keep the plants hydrated.

Recycle Those Old CD's

"Scratch Board" - I like taking my unused AOL etc...cd freebies and painting them with either an acrylic or fabric paint. I then lightly draw/trace a design onto the dried surface and proceed to scratch onto the design. This removes the paint and leaves the shiny rainbow part exposed ... voila you have a unique "scratch board" ... ( you can use a thick sewing needle ,pencil or end of a small paintbrush)

Drop spindle for spinning wool - You need roughly two cd's (aol's free ones work very well) a dowel about 12 - 16 inches long some rubber tubing and a small metal hook. Place the rubber tubing around the dowel and place in the center of the cd's about four inches from the top. screw metal hook into the top and spin.

Christmas Light Reflectors - We use them as reflectors for Christmas lights outside....the c-7 size bulbs fit thru the opening and then we put the light string on outdoor stakes and line a sidewalk...looks REALLY cool when it is lightly raining...the clear colored bulbs work best, but the opaque ones will do.

Use as Reflectors - Fasten to a wooden stake by pre-drilling and screwing/nailing it to the wood, shiny side OUT, and use as reflectors along your sidewalk or driveway.

Candle Display - Use cd's shiny side up to sit small pillar or votive candles on. The reflection off the cd's is great for centerpieces on buffet tables, especially during the holidays.

Sun Catcher - The sun's rays reflects all sorts of color off of them. Glue 2 CDs together (label sides to one another) To make holes for hanging, use a large enough needle or a nail. Use a pair of pliers to hold onto needle or nail and hold over an open flame to heat, then push through the two discs when hot enough. Run some decorative cord through the hole(s), decorate both sides, but nothing too large or you'll ruin the effect and the purpose of why you are making.

Christmas ornament ideas - For our company party (we have a small staff), I am using glitter glue to make festive designs on the shiny side of the cd's. We will slide decorate string through the hole of the cd, and tie a knot to make a loop, long enough to hang from a Christmas tree. Then we're taking Polaroid pictures of each couple. We will use fancy edger scissors to cut around the pictures and paste on the center of the decorated cd. If there is a label on the backside of the cd, you could cover with wrapping paper or construction paper and decorate with glitter glue, sequins, beads or whatever!

More Christmas ornament ideas - Using a permanent marking pen, Xmas shaped sponges and\or small simple stencils, I traced small stockings, bells, trees, stars and snowman on the shiny side of the cd and then cut them out using a small electric scroll saw. The key was to go slow. Then I used the dremel to smooth the edges and punch the holes to slip cord through to hang them. The finishing touch is to paint the label side with acrylic paint sponged on, or use snow texture paint, or glue and glitter. The commercial cd's show a pretty silvery color and writeable cds a lovely gold color. You can personalize the small ornaments with kids names written with a metallic permanent marker or acrylic paint. Or string a whole bunch together for a wonderful homemade garland.

Spinning tops for kids - Adult, take a knife and push through hole in CD making slit each side. Force a penny half way through hole. Spin CD on the edge of the penny. Enhance by gluing dowel to one side of penny to make it easier to spin.

Borders - In a teen's bedroom they make a nice substitute for a wallpaper border (it takes ALOT though). If you don't have that many you could also use them for a window or mirror border. Put them side by side or overlap them.

Use CD as template when you need a perfect circle for a project. (Bonus...you have two sizes!!)

Mosaic - Break into small pieces and use as mosaic tiles.

Make a clock - buy clockworks at your local craft store, the CD has a readymade hole in the center!

Wall decorations - I took an old venetian blinds and cut it up and made f petals. The plastic blinds are easy to cut. I painted the petals, five to each cd's. Then I spray painted the top coat with clear paint. Then lined 5 petal to each cd's and put a button in the middle. Then laced the outer edges. Four disk are lined up on the wall around my computer. It looks great. Another idea is to make angel wings by cutting the cd in half. Paper tape the cut. It will come apart if you don't. Take glue and spread other edge of the disk and put glitter on it to hid the tape. It makes a beautiful wings and shiny too.

Mobile - Drill holes in the top and string together to make a mobile.

Paint w/ oil paints.

Paint w/ acrylic mixed with multi-purpose sealer.

Paint and decorate w/ material, hang or frame.

Use as coasters - cover w/ felt.

Make a collage - Glue together to make a wall collage.

Garden helper - Run a string through the hole and hang in yard or from trees to keep birds away from garden.

Make bowls - Place in oven on low heat over a metal bowl shape, or heat with a blow dryer. When softened, they can be bent (gently). Glue to small plates or seal hole and use for candy dishes, fountain bowls, etc.

Cautions:
Any time you break CDs, Saftey glasses or goggles shoud be worn.
Handeling any broken pieces of CD, caution should be taken, edges are sharp and can cut the skin, like glass does.

This can be caused by a corrupted setup information (.INF) file.

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps and delete the C:\Windows\INF\INFCache.1 file:

1. Double-click the My Computer icon from the desktop or Start menu.

2. Click Tools on the Menu bar, and then click Folder Options.

3. Click the View tab.

4. Under Hidden Files And Folders click the button next to ´Show hidden files and folders´.

7. Double-click the hard drive icon that Windows is installed in.

8. Double-click the inf folder icon.

9. Scroll up the list to find the file INFCACHE.1, then right-click it and choose Delete.10. Restart your system

NOTE: After you deleted the file, please be sure to return step 1-5 of these settings to their previous condition.

Test your device and removed and put it back in a few times. I found that the infcache.1 would corrupt if not removed properly so I created a batch file to delete it to make it easier.

Time Management Tips

It's 10 p.m. -

Does it seem like there's never enough time in the day to get everything done? Feel like you're always running late? Here are some tips for taking control of your time and organizing your life.

1. Make a "To Do" List Every Day.

Put things that are most important at the top and do them first. If it's easier, use a planner to track all of your tasks. And don't forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments.

2. Use Spare Minutes Wisely.

Get some reading done on the bus ride home from school, for example, and you'll kill two birds with one stone.

3. It's Okay to Say "No."

If your boss asks you to work on a Thursday night and you have a final exam the next morning, realize that it's okay to say no. Keep your short- and long-term priorities in mind.

4. Find the Right Time.

You'll work more efficiently if you figure out when you do your best work. For example, if your brain handles math better in the afternoon, don't wait to do it until late at night.

5. Review Your Notes Every Day.

You'll reinforce what you've learned, so you need less time to study. You'll also be ready if your teacher calls on you or gives a pop quiz.

6. Get a Good Night's Sleep.

Running on empty makes the day seem longer and your tasks seem more difficult.

7. Communicate Your Schedule to Others.

If phone calls are proving to be a distraction, tell your friends that you take social calls from 7-8 p.m. It may sound silly, but it helps.

8. Become a Taskmaster.

Figure out how much free time you have each week. Give yourself a time budget and plan your activities accordingly.

9. Don't Waste Time Agonizing.

Have you ever wasted an entire evening by worrying about something that you're supposed to be doing? Was it worth it? Instead of agonizing and procrastinating, just do it.

10. Keep Things in Perspective.

Setting goals that are unrealistic sets you up for failure. While it's good to set high goals for yourself, be sure not to overdo it. Set goals that are difficult yet reachable.
Consider these tips, but personalize your habits so that they suit you. If you set priorities that fit your lifestyle, you'll have a better chance of achieving your goals.

Tips Decrease Noise of PC

Bouncing movement of your voice mp3 collection is really delicious heard. Hear car howl from scene in film, shooting whizz from game in your PC are atmosphere violent increase. But voice wail that produced your PC, not fun matter to heard. Even less if you belong one who seldom lethal PC, although asleep. Possible your dream is bightmare is visited bee measures giant because hear wail that made by pc you. How does manner remove it? What’re component in PC is noisy?

Optimal your PC refrigerator

Fan really be principal weapon majority PC to chases away hot from component. But, fan this also all at once be mother curries stir that produce constant wail in your PC. Try to count total fan pair in your PC. 1 in hsf (heatsink fan) processor, 1 integration in power supply. Bot to mention if motherboard equiped with hsf in chipset, hsf gpu (graphic processor unit) in video card. You that give top priority ruthless in casing your PC majority add to begin from 1 fruit fan up to 2-4 fan addition to ascertain air current in casing. Bot to mention glad coddle harddisk (even less that has rpm tall), sometimes add harddisk cooler that fan addition again.

If you’re looking for fan addition, try to look for fan have a certain quality with low noise level. A good fan doesn’t produce many vibration moment operate. Diameter fan is big has inclination produces lower noise level. So if your casing make possible, choose fan measure 120 mm than fan 80 mm.

If you excessive has many fan, try to ascertain which effectiveest to casing you. Its way enough easy. From program monitoring hardware, like motherboard monitor. This utility has display (that called dashboard) very easy to read. Even also available reading result logarithm in certain time distance. To monitor harddisk temperature, can make use HDD thermometer 1.0.

Look for combination fan correctest with refrigeration optimalest level. Try to run PC with load full (while play game/run heavy application) during bot less than 15 minutes. See recorded maximal temperature in motherboard monitor. Compare the value with combination fan other addition. Choose to which to follow you best between total fan with noise level that produced, accustom with environment around. If there fan remained, make as reservist if there fan that experience damage.

Make time to mean operative death at road. But in your PC, make time to mean noise addition. Especially to your drive optics & harddisk. Meaningless you must tolerance the slowly your PC. Only arrange speed your PC as according to need.

To drive optics, its way enough easy. Enough rely on software Nero Drivespeed 2.0. Arrange speed in turn 24–32x. You even can regulate time depth before drive your optics spin down. While need high-speed in drive your optics, live to return to setting at a speed of maximal. This will be needed while drive optics will be be used for process ripping/ copy file from CD/DVD.

So also to your harddisk. Unfortunately, this matter bot applicable at all brands harddisk. For example, like to Maxtor harddisk with AMSET utility/harddisk IBM-Hitachi with feature tool. Accomodate to setting with noise level appropriate your willing.

Others

Noisy voice from your computer also can happen because vibration that produced. Fan with bad quality can be one of the cause. Try to get fan with minimal vibration. Screw not pair well also causes vibration voice. this is enough with tighten screws pair in you PC.

Watercooling

If you genuinely nauseated with wail noise from pc you, moment it change to alternative other refrigeration. Method watercooling can be made alternative choice.

Watercooling technique in a word can be analogized with motor vehicle refrigeration use to refrigerator radiator. Watercooling makes use water to chill hot that produced component PC, especially processor. Usually consist of 3 bodywork, water block, copper radiator water pump. Water refrigeration process as refrigeration media is done in copper radiator, while water circulation makes use water pump. Water block embeddinged to processor to chase away hot that produced.

The profit, noise level that produced very low. Fan in radiator puts rpm not too tall so that not noise. Water pump also not noise, this matter is caused because make use water to muffle voice that produced. Solution that suited for that look for CPU cooling efficient with low noise level.

Nnecessary be payed leak possibility that can happen if use method watercooling this. Besides, the price that still relative more expensive compared with HSF make refrigeration method watercooling not choice to majority computer user.
